Plenty Of Work Ahead For Aliquippa Flood Victims

ALIQUIPPA Two days after heavy rain caused widespread flooding in Aliquippa, the community still has plenty of work ahead.

Officials say 500 home and businesses in Beaver County were affected by the flash floods. Aliquippa saw the worst of it, with 90 percent of the damage happening there.

Bill Zucarro owns Stevie's Dairy Mart on the corner of Green and Sheffield. He says 13 feet of water filled his business.

"I was the epicenter. The hill came down, the back hill came down, the creek came over. It all met here," he said.

All of his inventory was lost. Many families who live in the area were hit hard too. But since the disaster, people have stepped in to lend a helping hand.

And despite the loss, people are looking to the future.

"You can survive to the next day. You can't cast out your hope - as long as there's life there's hope," Gene Saunders said.
